King William's War was between Protestant England and Catholic France and ranged from 1690-1697. It started with rising tensions in America between the French and English colonies expanding towards the Mississippi river valley. Frontenac, the governor of Canada, instigated several raids of outlying american settlements which eventually sparked war between the two superpowers. Most of the fighting boiled down to little attacks on the frontier and was only in America. Eventually, a treaty was signed at Ryswick which restored all land back to the opposing countries and tensions still remained. (USAhistory.info)
