Coercive Acts (aka the Intolerable Acts) (1774)

This was the retaliation of the British Government to the Boston Tea Party. These acts consisted of extra laws that placed even more restrictions on the colonists' liberty. The quartering act forced colonists to house any needed British troops. The Boston Port Act closed the popular and thriving port of Boston until the colonists would pay enough money back to account for the lost damage during the Boston Tea Party. The Administration of Justice Act said that British Officials in North America could not be tried for capital crimes. Then the Massachussets Government Act ended all town meetings and placed all authority under British Officials.                                  Taral P.
